Irises

I love April because the irises come out in my garden, first the pink, then the white, maroon, purple, yellow, orange and blue -- a rainbow of irises! Irises are a perfect subject for a watercolor or oil painting, with their soft folds and subtle rainbow colors. I spend days watching an iris mature, from the tightly folded bud, to the classic blossom in its prime, to the fully opened and flat flower, revealing its innermost center.
