| Water Lilies
I have a small pond in my garden and enjoy sitting beside it, watching my fish play in the Water Lilies. The plants grow on the bottom of the pond...the blooms and round leaves float on the surface, moving with the ripples of the water. The blooms, that may last several days, open each morning and close each evening, giving many opportunities for me to see a bloom in different configurations. One reason I paint water lilies is because they give me a chance to paint the reflections of a crisp white bloom on a liquid blue background. I am inspired by water lilies every time I see them in my garden! The first painting on this page, called "Lotus," was featured on the cover of a book named Broad View, Boundless Heart, published by the Abhayagiri Buddhist Monastery.
